Cultural Differences

A friend of mine is trying to save her marriage by taking burlesque lessons, this is about as hopeful as David Cameron trying to create a Big Society by declaring that multiculturalism is dead. Do these people have too much time on their hands and not enough cells in their brain?

Is that a redundant question? Right, so, if we are all working together to try to make the planet survive, we will possibly have less time to hate. That’s what I think. There is this great scene in Bed knobs and broomsticks where they are all dancing on Portobello road in London, and there are regiments from the different parts of the armed services. The thing that strikes you is when there is a group of Indian men serving in the British army. People have conveniently forgotten, that the war of wars would not have been won, without all of the people of the British Empire.

There is a lot of cognitive dissonance going on. This is what I think, People’s thinking has been truly muddled by the media so that there is no clear understanding of what is going on the world. People migrate for many reasons, and there is still a great desire to come to the great western democracies. While here in the great western democracy our civil and human rights are being continuously eroded.

People have always been confused by people who are different than they are. There are days when you can just chat with somebody and openly ask them about who they are and where they come from. If the question is asked with an open heart in the right environment friendships can be forged across huge cultural divides.
